What is Steel Bridge?

The Steel Bridge Team has long been a cornerstone of the Civil Engineering curriculum at the University of Minnesota. Beyond the leadership, teamwork, and networking skills it gives our members, it also invites future structural engineers to put their design skills into practice. The team works to build a 1:10 model steel bridge that can withstand a variety of weight tests while at the same time being as economical as possible. The bridge is graded upon criteria such as lightness, structural efficiency, aesthetics, and build time. Join the email list for the team down below to learn more about the planning and building!

Sponsor Steel Bridge

Each year we participate in ASCE’s Student Symposium to compete in their flagship events and the materials, transportation, and organizational costs add up. Sponsorships help us purchase better materials, safety equipment, and fund our trip to regional competition, all while providing learning opportunities to Minnesota’s brightest young structural engineers. We advertise our sponsors to students from UMN and from competing schools by recognizing them on our student chapter website, in our weekly newsletter, and on our team shirts.
